the rural clinic of verón is the only primary care facility serving the local community within 50 miles of the punta cana international airport. the clinic is situated on the south side of highway 106 just west of the airport. it serves the spontaneous settlements nearby, populated mostly by haitians working for the nearby hospitality industry. the landscape is typical of the eastern caribbean coastal plain, semi-arid scrub forest on a karst limestone terrace.
