this uplighter lamp refers to the classical corinthian column that governs the product's form and its function as a lighting device. however, this project explores the historical idea of rusticity in the classical orders, while alluding to the illegal forestry practices that currently supply the baltic birch plywood industry. the shaft of the columena rustica lamp is made of plywood drums separated by birch log drums, salvaged from a single tree. this is a direct reference to the serlian form of rustication. in addition, the horizontal lenticels of the birch bark resemble the horizontal banding of the plywood. this surface similarity helps to visually reinforce the connection between origins and applications of the birch wood. plywood rings provide emphasis between the drums.
