the name of this chair, "sella lacta" or "milk seat" refers to the poor mining reclamation efforts of the aluminum companies in the caribbean. high diversity tropical forests are cleared for open-pit mining of bauxite. after the mines are depleted, african savanna grasses are planted to create low diversity pastures for cattle. in fact, a special breed of dairy cow, the "jamaica hope" was developed to create a viable dairy industry predicated on bauxite mining. the aluminum companies are jamaica's largest producers of milk. in response to this, the seat of a standard alcoa aluminum chair is planted with bermuda grass sod and includes a toy holstein dairy cow.
