"cardo" is latin for "crisis" as well as "hinge". this large drum of hickory was felled in the a.d. white garden at cornell university due to a lightning strike. the original sawcuts were used to create a geometry that allows this heavy piece to rock from one position to another in an abrupt, surprising way, referencing the current state of the environmental crisis as we exceed 350 ppm of atmospheric co2, widely accepted as the tipping point for severe climate change.
